About martinmadeit
What martinmadeit does
Limited run and custom joinery, anything will be considered but I am mostly focussed on modest furniture such as small cabinets and utility items such as tool totes and workshop jigs. Items will generally be available as either plans or finished product. The plans should be treated as a guideline rather than a strict set of instructions, if you wish to make small changes to a design and adjust a size or a shape then there should be enough information to let you achieve this. If you have purchased plans from another supplier but for whatever reason don’t have opportunity to do the work yourself then I will consider building the item for you. Clearly I cannot enter into any arrangement that might conflict with the original supplier of the plan e.g. activities such as batch production cannot be undertaken. If you would like to discuss having something built from your plans please contact enquiries@martinmadeit.com describing your requirement.
How martinmadeit does it
Where possible the work will mostly be done with hand tools. This does perhaps increase the time taken (and hence the price) but the finished result is something that can be cherished. You will end up with a distinct and individual piece.
Design, Copyright, Intellectual Property, Licensing etc.
Mankind has been making things out of wood for quite a while now and there are only so many ways to construct a table or chair. Unless otherwise stated the products on martinmadeit.com have been designed locally although they will quite obviously bear resemblances to other craftsmen’s work. If you feel that anything on this web site infringes your property then firstly I apologise and secondly please contact martin@martinmadeit.com and we’ll talk about it.
Working with Wood
Wood changes shape depending on how it has been prepared and the environment it is subsequently kept in, the sizes quoted on plans and items may vary from the finished article as a result. Two items built from a common plan will be very similar but not identical, the wood grain and texture will vary from piece to piece.
